Here are the 10 Common Signs of a Spiritual Awakening [Beginners]

In this article, I give you the common signs of a spiritual awakening that either I or my friends have encountered.

Have you been experiencing what we call a spiritual awakening? If you think you have then you’re like me.  I have witnessed the shift over the past 4 years now and speaking on that topic with friends and relatives I realized that it can be a tricky subject.

We all go through different experiences, different symptoms and you start to think that there isn’t a real answer to what is happening to you.

Especially at the beginning! Maybe you’re in the same situation, or maybe you know someone that needs guidance and understanding.

So I have gathered 10 common signs to a spiritual awakening that you might have experienced.

Firstly, what is a spiritual awakening in the most simple terms? Well, it is simply the acknowledgment of self. You will find thousands of different answers out there. But remember that it is because everybody has a unique experience to the awakening. We are powerful beings with complex personalities.

At times, our inner force will manifest in a totally different way than our neighbor. The awakening allows us to channel these powers and use them hopefully for our own good.

Have you ever wanted to go more in-depth in the understanding of your spiritual journey but wasn’t sure how to? I have blended some of my personal experiences with some of the researches I have made.

Are there any causes of spiritual awakening ?

Many people have started to experience a spiritual awakening after a negative event, or the accumulation of several events. I guess we can say it is a way for your being to “rebel” and asks itself…why? What could be the triggering point?

  • Diagnosis of health issues / serious illness which forces you to dive in deeper and find answers no doctor can find
  • An unfulfilled job
  • Death of a loved one
  • Change in diet towards healthier and more plant-based (close to earth) foods
  • Climate change
  • Constant negative and draining news on TV
  • An accident
  • The loss or gradual disinterest of religious beliefs
  • The build-up of different events

Now mind you, you might not relate to these particular points and that’s fine. The truth is there is an infinite list of what causes you to experience a spiritual awakening. It might not even be obvious, it could be totally unconscious.

However, trust me on this, a shift in you happened which allows your being to awaken. At that point you have might start to ask yourself questions…

Have you started to question yourself a lot? It could be a common sign of a Spiritual Awakening…

If you are an over-thinker like me then anything and everything happening to you will lead to a question game session and that is exhausting. However, this exercise is extremely valuable in finding out about thyself.

Am I depressed ?

Why do I feel lonely and sad ?

What’s my purpose in life ?

Am I really happy and fulfilled right now ?

Why do I feel like i’m out of place ?

Am I missing something ?

Why is it that my social life feels dull all of the sudden ?

How can I help people around me instead of focusing on me ?

You could be the happiest person on earth, have an amazing career, a great relationship, a terrific health and still feel like something is missing. A void that is not necessarily easy to explain and can sometimes be mistaken for mental health issues such as depression.

I know.. when you put it like that, it sounds a bit scary but we’re all in this together and we’re rising together.

There are ways to distinguish it.

What are the 10 common signs of a spiritual awakening ?

In most cases, you will start to notice specific manifestations of your spiritual awakening. I have found 10 signs that can relate to a spiritual shift.

1- Family and friends will say you changed

Have you recently found yourself preaching about karma, the universe, or meditation to your relatives? They might have looked at you weird. I guess it is part of the process and not much we can do about it. Remember that people change, grow, evolve, change their minds and habits. Therefore it is totally natural and normal, and you should not be left feeling like a freak.

2- Feeling isolated/lonely.

You will lose the will to hang out and participate in non-meaningful gatherings. You start to feel like no one understands you.

Furthermore, it is vital to have a considerable amount of alone time during this shift. Constantly being around people does not allow for internal thought and internal growth. You need stillness in silence.

Fun fact, in tarot, the card that represents the act of taking a break from the outside world is The Hermit card. The hermit as we know is alone in his path to find the answers he seeks.

3- Get excited every-time you meet someone with some sort of spiritual awareness.

Every time this happens I get the reassurance that I’m normal, and that all is fine. It may sound silly but there’s nothing more exciting than connecting with someone that vibrates on the same frequency.

In the beginning, it would take me to get into a full conversation with someone to find out if they are ‘spiritual’. I now feel like I can see people’s aura and energetic light.

4- You will have conflicted thoughts/behaviors.

One day, you think the earth is flat, the other you think it’s not. Ok, maybe not this random example but you might find yourself constantly changing your mind about topics related to our Universe and what’s around us. You might change your mind about your own life choices, your relationships.

I mean you got my point, EVERYTHING. On that note, it makes me think of this stigma spiritual people live in a perfectly centered and aligned bubble filled with roses and crystals. Oh no no no, there’s a lot going on.

5- You might seek a job that is more aligned with your new-you.

You may think that your daily life lacks purpose. Hence why you might find yourself actively looking for a new career path or charity work. Something that will make you feel like your existence matter, whether it is monetary or not.

6- All you see around you are un-conscious people blinded by the matrix

Right, I might have gone a bit off the tracks here but hear me out.

Once you start to go deeper, you will start questioning all that we have learned at school or growing up at home.

The way we see the world as well as the way we see other people.

I recall having moments where I felt everybody around me was wearing blindfolds. You might start watching conspiracy documentaries and un-learn static beliefs. It can, for example, manifest with the loss of faith if you have been raised in a religious family.

7- Interest in past lives, death, spirits.

That’s a big one. A lot of us (more than we think) have the ability to feel/communicate with spirits. As you grow into your spiritual journey, you might find ‘the other side’ fascinating.

Why?

Because what ultimately connects us with death is our souls, our spirits; these cannot die.

Also, our senses during a spiritual awakening, become more receptive and therefore more apt to connect with spirits. In regards to past lives, it can sometimes manifest in a feeling of ‘deja-vu’ or feeling like you have met a person before.

8- You might have trouble sleeping.

I remember a period of my life where I would wake up at the same time (3:15 am) every night for a few nights in a row. Not only this was really spooky but once I googled it, it really scared me.

I found that I was being woken up by a spirit, who had something to tell me. Hmmm okay… Well, my skeptical self actually believed it, and here was I overthinking on what could be the secret message.

All I know is there are many ways spiritual guides have to manifest in our lives, and this could be one. Just let it be, accept it. Don’t try to avoid it or else it will manifest under a different form.

9- You see double numbers (angel numbers) everywhere

11:11, 14:41, 3:33, 12:21, 10:10. You’re randomly looking at your watch and here it is, the amount on your shopping bill and here it is. If this happens to you regularly, just know that there is a meaning for each double number.

This website is really helpful to find out exactly what is the message behind that number you keep seeing everywhere. For each angel number, they give you a break down of the significance, the angelic interpretation, the numerology, and the tarot relation.

10- Our ‘low days’ might be longer and more intense.

You know those days “ I don’t know what’s wrong but I’m just not feeling good today’. Don’t you hate it? Well, when you go through a spiritual awakening you might feel like these are the most draining days ever. Why?

Because we feel every emotion intensely. We interpret our actions to be high and meaningful. This takes a lot of energy.

How to achieve a spiritual awakening in 2020 ?

Is that even a thing?  I have brief moments where I wish I was not enlightened, just so I can live a simple life. No overthinking, no analysis of my generational past-on traumas.

The best answer will be not to try anything but to just allow things to happen naturally.

_’ALL IN DIVINE TIMING’.

However, if you want to be pro-active, one thing I would recommend is to practice being authentic in your approach. You can use these simple tricks :

1. Meditate

A consistent practice of meditation connects us with our higher self and releases a divine serenity.

2. Try not to judge to free your spirit

We often judge people, events, or situations due to our past experiences. In reason of theses comparisons, there is a lot of internal dialogue in our minds which is not useful to our spiritual rise. It causes pain and stress, which stops when we let go of the negative energy sent to others. Avoiding it allows stillness to better focus on our growth.

3. The art of silence

The more we talk, the more we create thoughts. An excessive amount of thoughts can slow our spiritual ascension. By allowing yourself to have moments of silence (outside of meditation), you will start to master the art of grounding yourself. You feel more centered and aligned: BODY – MIND – SOUL

4. Holistic healing methods

Reiki and hypnotherapy are efficient ways to heal traumas. They will help release and unblock parts of our bodies (physical or internal) and ease a smoother spiritual process.

5. Read books or listen to podcasts.

I recommend Your 7 chakras awakening – Odette J. Moon. You could also recite affirmations daily.

Spiritual awakening :  Favorite quotes for thoughts

“The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and the acceptance of love”

Marianne Williamson

“Every night, when I go to sleep, I die. Every morning, when I wake up, I am reborn”

Mahatma Gandhi

“The awakening of the soul to its bondage and its effort to stand up and assert itself – this is called life”

Swami Vivekananda

“Awakening your spiritual side is really what artists do. When you hit a groove, it’s not you; it’s the spirit world”

Tommy Chong

“It’s exhilarating to be alive in a time of awakening consciousness; it can also be confusing, disorienting, and painful”

Adrienne Rich

“Awakening is about liberating yourself from the prison that is the world of the mind and daring to be here as all that you are”

Leonard Jacobson

To conclude

I know it’s a lot to take in.

I have met people who do not relate to what I’ve gone through and vice versa. There is no magical formula. An active listening of what’s going on around you and inside you is the key.

Be authentic, do your research, do not be hard on yourself or others, and practice stillness & silence.

Just BE and BREATHE.

Everything comes in place when it’s meant to (as corny as it sounds). Trying too hard will only make it harder for you.

With everything that’s happening in the world, it’s relevant to ask ourselves if a spiritual awakening will become the new ‘let’s go to the spa’ trend.

Do you think spirituality and consciousness have become a famous movement ? Or do you think that the external aggressions (tv, news, ads..) we ‘eat’ daily naturally justify our needs to connect with ourselves more?

I would love to hear your thoughts…

Thank you for reading.
