In this article, I give you the best practices and ways to holistically purify the air in your home.
As a rule, I believe that HOME is within thyself, having a home (flat, house, van, house-share, your grandma’s basement…) that we love and cherish is just as important.
Often, our home is the reflection of our state of mind.
Therefore, when I find my spirit and mind are shifting towards negative thoughts, my room (especially) will be just as messy as my brain. Raise your hand if you leave clothes on the drying rack for a whole week !!…. Exactly!
Anyways, I have spent years learning how to declutter my mind, through meditation, yoga, mindfulness practices.
Well, it revealed that my physical space is a beneficial part of what is happening inside.
In addition, we pollute our homes with cleaning products. And even our cute eco-friendly softener and bathroom cleaner have some chemical content.
The same chemical content we breathe in EVERY DAY.
These are the best ways to naturally purify the air in your home.

Why should you purify the air at home ?
- Remove cleaning product’s toxicity level
- Remove toxicity’s level to ALL other house items (paint, carpets, mattresses..)
- Avoid lungs related illnesses such as shortness of breath, asthma and even cancer
- Clear the air of cigarettes’ smoke
- Minimize the effect of dust and pet allergies
So what can we do to resolve this issue in the most holistic and safe way possible ?
5 Ways to get a clean air at home naturally
Obvious but so important: OPEN YOUR WINDOWS EVERYDAY, LET THE AIR IN AND OUT. We consume on average 20 liters of oxygen every hour and breathe out around 17 liters of carbon dioxide and other toxins.
Living in a confined space with no renewed air makes it easier for germs and bacterias to flourish.
Depending on whether we live in the countryside, the seaside or a big city, our indoors are sometimes more polluted than our outdoors and that is due to everything surrounding us.
For this reason, unless you live in a yurt full of organic products, chances are you are surrounded by chemicals. Let’s stop for a second and look around: carpet, table, clothes, paint… has non-organic & non-naturals ingredients in them.
We breathe this environment all night and most of the day.
Therefore, to optimise our health it is crucial to act on the air quality we breathe at home.
I’ve selected for you some of the best ways to naturally purify your air at home :
1. Essential oils to purify the air at home

- Eucalyptus
- Lemongrass
- Lavender
- Rosemary
- Cinnamon
2. Holistic items to naturally purify the air at home
Beeswax candle

These little gems are great to detox our homes. As they release negative ions into the air, the candles clean and purify the air with no scent or smoke.
As a result, it helps to treat allergies symptoms, asthma, and evening chronic coughing. Make sure you safely burn candles that are 100% beeswax and free from paraffin and petroleum.
Himalayan salt lamp

By far my favorite house item. I just love it, I bought it nearly 2 years ago on Amazon and it still looks great. Not only it looks beautiful and is an eco-friendly source of light, but it also :
Cleanses and purifies the air
Helps reducing allergies symptoms
Eases coughing
Absorbs electromagnetic radiation
Reduces static electricity in the air
Increases energy
Improves mood and Concentration
Eases a better sleep
Sage

You can either burn dry white sage around your home or place fresh green sage in a pan filled with boiling water and let the water evaporate in the room of your choice.
Burning sage is also known to release a place from blocked and negative energies, make sure you direct the smoke towards the ceiling, focus on the corners, and open the windows.
Benzoin resin incense
The benefit of this resin was found at the end of the 19th Century in Armenia by Auguste Ponsot, when he discovered that locals were burning benzoin in their homes to purify the air. Auguste decided to bring it back to France. He made paper infused Benzoin to burn and it was a great success. Benzoin resin has a sweet scent and is also known to clear dark energies and helps to feel uplifted.
3. Foods to naturally purify the air at home
Cinnamon

I use cinnamon every day in my breakfast porridge for the beautiful benefits and taste it adds to my first meal of the day. But guess what, we can also use this wonderful spice to purify the air in our homes. It also is an insect repellant.
Infuse cinnamon to water and add to a bottle spray or light bulb diffuser and use it as an air freshener.
Clove

Clove is the multi-use household MUST HAVE. It has so many health benefits it’s actually overwhelming but let’s just go around a few :
- Can be burnt as a form of incense
- Used for hair and skin treatment
- It is an amazing antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anesthetic, antioxidant
- It has also been given aphrodisiac benefits
- Prevent bad breath
- Ease toothaches, this spice is actually what pharmaceutical companies use for toothpaste fabrication
- Used as a tea, it is a great natural weight loss tool
- Stick cloves in an orange and it becomes a very efficient insect repellant
You probably won’t believe me but there’s more to it, it’s just not the topic at hand so I won’t bore you with all the little details.
Eucalyptus leaves

These miracle leaves were used by our grandparents when a family member was ill, they would fill a pan with boiling water and add the leaves in. The antiseptic oil would evaporate and purify the air in the house in order to detox the contagious germs floating around.
Thyme
Great for pet, dust, hay fever allergies. Place thyme leaves in hot water and let it evaporate around the house. This is particularly great for blocked noses and sore throats.
4. Plants to purify the air at home
I KNOW duh.. we end with the obvious but most definitely THEEE most prolific way to detox your home. On top of adding a beautiful earthy feel to your space, plants release 97% of the water they take in which help us breathe easier.
Why?
When we breathe, our bodies take in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide; plants absorb carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. A beautiful circle of life. Here are a few I have at home and love to have around…
Bamboo plant

Sansevieria or Snake plant

Aloe vera plant
